Leeches may not tempt you to go swimming Patkin pond, but they may encourage you to go fishing. FIsh Chair, Michael Smith pump’d this specimen from the inside of a caught trout. 90% of leeches, including this kind, don’t bother humans.I found a leech (most likely erpobdella) in trout stomach samples today. I know that leech patterns are great at catching fish from Malden Anglers, especially in the early part of the season, but I have never seen one in the pond until now. It’s been a long winter for many Malden Anglers, with several monthly meetings canceled between December and March due to inclement weather. On March 31st, members were finally able to gather—for almost 50 attendees, it was well worth the wait.
The evening covered a lot of ground, beginning with a hearty pot roast dinner, followed by a fascinating presentation by angler Craig Andree. His talk, “Seven Rivers in Four Days,” took us on a journey through New Hampshire, blending strategy, storytelling, and the practical helpful hints.
Judging by the packed room and lively discussion, it was a great way to shake off winter and look ahead to the season to come.
