| 4 | 5Fly Tying NightFly Tying NightTime: 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm![]() First session: Next Monday – November 3, 2025 at the Malden Anglers club house.
Sessions begin at 6PM and typically run until 8 to 8:30 PM. Some members arrive early or meet to have dinner before the session begins.
New tyers or people who simply want to observe are absolutely welcome.
Members will always share materials and tools if you’re just getting started or missing a key component.
I’ve mapped out an agenda that includes 18 weeks fly tying sessions. The attached PDF file provides details week by week with a designed fly on top and one or two alternative patterns. Each fly has an illustration; materials list and a Hyperlink to a YouTube video that provides detailed instructions. Simply click on the hyper-link and it should open your internet browser to the appropriate video.
Members can choose any or all of the patterns to tie during a session based on materials they have available or particular pattern(s) they might prefer.
I’ve made every attempt to select flies that have proven to be very productive at Patkin Pond. Ther two exceptions I left of the list are Wooly Buggers and egg patterns – which are so common that most experienced tyers find tying them boring. That said, they are some of the most productive flies on the planet; so, if you’re a new tyer and want to tie a few – just ask.
Dates for the sessions will be determined week by week as we progress when on occasion there are conflicts with Holidays, or some major club event, etc.
There will be a special event in December, not shown in my schedule, where Craig Andre has offered to lead his annual Holiday fly event. This is a special treat where fly tyers will be coached to construct a special Holiday oriented fly for display at home.
